Old Glasgow - Poem

Artwork Title: Old Glasgow

Through mist and coal, the city wakes,

Where River Clyde its journey takes.

A cobbled path, a carriage near,

The echoes hum of yesteryear.

Merchants call with voices bright,

Their wares displayed in morning light.

A weaver spins, a baker shouts,

As chimneys roar and steam pours out.

A lady walks in silken grace,

Beneath her hat, a veiled face.

A newsboy stands with ink-stained hands,

Proclaiming news across the lands.

The blacksmith’s hammer sings its tune,

The tavern glows ‘neath a gas-lit moon.

A fiddler plays, the dancers twirl,

As life moves on in an endless swirl.

Yet through the soot and factory’s din,

A city’s heart beats deep within.

For Glasgow, bold and proud it stands,

Built through toil and by honest hands.

A city full of much detail,

Of merchants, mills, from Glasgow’s ships that sail.

For in these streets, both grand and grey,

Where Old Glasgow still lives for us in ink today.
